    Hi All

    Just out of interest how many people use the new skill... i have tried to incorporate this skill into my play however i am not feeling much love at the moment for it. Unfortunately i think the SW got the worst new skill out of the 4 classes
    In all hope has anyone found a good combo that includes the frozen sphere so we can do some good stuff

    I've seen ppl using it with 2h weapon and mana build e.g. dragan, mana gems, wisdom etc attacking a bunch of mobs in q3/m2, teleport and again. Otherwise I find it completely useless and will never use. Junk. Mages are overall losers of the release, next to DKs ofc.

    I gave it a trial. It didn't work out well enough to keep using it. Maybe with another 100 points to spread around, it would be worth a second look. LOL

    I only use it with very soft mobs like those in the normal world where one Frozen Sphere kills stuff (without the extra damage talent, but keep in mind I'm 2h). For tougher stuff, I'd rather opt for other things, like erm... maybe destructor beam.

    I disagree with you. Although this skill is only made for PVE monster groups it is very useful. The combination of 2h weapon + Grimmag's Starry Robe + Dragan set is the best combo I had ever had in this game for PVE. And if you use the Singularity + Teleport mana regeneration the effect is awesome. This skill, unlike LS, gives you the same damage in the explosion area. This is all in combination with the mages best skills, running and circling around enemies :p
    Of course it is useless with monster groups with less than 3 monsters.

    Edit: And if you use Bearer of Corruption staff with 1000-1300? Critical hit rate (which I don't have yet) I think it would be even more awesome.

    I wish the SW's in PVP felt the same as you guys did with a general dislike for it. 12k HP, 45% resists and I get one shot routinely. I was impressed enough that I tried it on my alt for PVE and like it especially for single mobs that I can maintain proper distance from. TI's nice when you are trying to get rid of a ceartain mob in a pack also.

    I was going to say it, but Sebastian beat me to it. The Dwarf's Tesla Coil and the Ranger's Explosive Arrow are both awesome, but the DK's leaves much to be desired.

    Coupla questions about the Frozen Sphere:

    - Why does it explode at a set, inflexible range? It's not so powerful that it has to be gimped like that (Lightning strike, eg, is stronger but hits wherever the pointer is. What gives with the FS burst?)

    - Main Q: the FS explosion delivers 200% dmg. The lvl 49 talent increases the damage of the explosion by 66%. Now, does that mean the 200% goes up by 2/3s, to around 340%? Or is it simple addition: 200% --> 266%.*

    *(Same could be asked about Lightning Strike, eg: a direct hit delivers 250% dmg, unless the target has already been electrified, in which case it deals 33% extra dmg. So, 250% ---> 330ish% or simply 283%?).

    And I definitely agree with the above posts: Frozen Sphere essentially brings nothing novel to the mage's table, especially if it is less powerful than the Lightning strike.

    From what I've noticed, the explosion does 332% damage with the talent. What a lot of people here are forgetting to mention, is that if you aim the frost sphere properly, it will also hit a stationary mob 2 more times for 50% each as it passes along, dealing 432% total damage.

    If you add this with the 10 mana per shot regen, then this skill outweighs the lightning strike in damage (only 332% after the electrified debuff).

    The only time I ever use lightning strike now, is when I switch to my lightning staff (500% lightning damage instead of 250%) for my boss set-up, as lightning strike is safer to use due to the longer range, and saves me a bit of essence (3 per shot instead of 4) against the bosses.

    EDIT: If you want to add it to your build, make sure you have both taunt talents, as they are very useful for controlling the flow of the battle, and keeping the mobs right where you need them - bunched up at the right range to blast away at them

    You are right, it's good on mobs, in general, especially if controlled by a guardian.

    And I also switch to light on bosses, especially when on blue to save essences.

    But lighting staff?) Isn't it obsolete by now? 2 times less dmg for the whole build, no crit etc?

    With my build, the lightning strike damage is higher using the staff (my 2hand has a crit line, and I'm yet to find a good one even after more than 200 crafts/drops :( ). If I take the mana talent, I have 256 mana.

    I do have lower crit, but using syncroninity and mind control, I drop guardian, fire 4 strikes, tp then 5 strikes, then magic missle, strike 1 more time, and then re-cycle. Almost non-stop lightning, which I can't do properly without the 1.60 speed I have using LS.

    If I grok you correctly, I was in the same predicament. Had an exo 2h staff with dmg and crit; kept melting all the other staffs I'd been finding/crafting -- mostly legendaries -- cuz they only gave dmg. No crit. Finally, I was able to craft something with great dmg (no crit of course) and said FTS: I'm going with it. Been with that staff since, slowly building crit back up via other gear. I can understand having to choose between defense and offense, but between damage and critical hit rate? Over and over again? Reedickolus.

    I wish I could remember who posted it, but someone made a great point (imo) about crit hit rate: it's supposed to be a special hit, not your standard, therefore getting it as high as possible, especially to the detriment of other attributes, may not be such a good idea, especially if DSO has crit in its crosshairs (massive crit nerf; *CV* not really *V'ing* it). I understand why players (especially PvPers) pursue it. But DSO deliberately went after crit probably because it is so player-valued.

    My current staff has a high dmg% line, 2 dmg lines and 1 crit line. The sad thing is, even though I am aiming for 2 or 3 dmg% lines with 1 or 2 damage lines on a leg staff, I have yet to find any that are even half good and have higher dps using 4 lines, than my current does using 3 lines, which is why I'm stuck with the one I have at the moment.

    Thats weird :) don't mind showing your staff?.. Or just list stats to make it easier.

    Do you use dragan (why? Especially why with lighting staff?) And 2 Rings of Inner Fortitude?

    Lighting staff has speed, true, but you can't take the benefits of damage bonuses, as it has low damage. Also, 1.4k+ crit line on a legendary would make a big difference, especially paired with Darkness set, which you don't have, I assume? Here is my combo:

    Guardian, MC, Meteor, Singu, teleport, Meteor, 3 Strikes, teleport, or something like that. And I keep the right mouse button with the magic missile pressed.

    Sure, the stats of my 2hand staff are 702-994, with crit 1457 (WPD 60.68%, WD 179, crit 1457, but only 2 gem slots). I use dragan, along with lvl 48 grimmag robe which gives 49 mana, thus I don't use any rings of inner fortitude.

    I actually have all of the darkness set apart from the torso, but I don't like using it because my hp and defense stats are too low using it. I compared the DPS using darkness, with the DPS using warlord, and darkness set has 20% higher DPS. However using darkness, I lose alot of mana, block chance and resistance, so I decided it wasn't worth it. Maybe if I get more CD lines on my left side items, I will eventually change to it.
